UNO

I just did something I never thought I’d do: I installed a GUI theme to give my Mac a consistent look. I love OS X, but I’m getting tired of Apple’s indiscriminate proliferation of window styles. The clincher was the new look in iTunes 5.0.1. So you have aqua (e.g., Preview), metal (e.g., Safari), burnt metal (e.g., iTunes 5.0.1), sunken unified (e.g., Mail) and whatever the heck they call the look of the professional apps like Final Cut Pro. UNO (derived from the Latin word for “one”) unifies your windows with the same sunken unified look of Mail.

UNO is simple to install; you don’t have to install a GUI theme switcher first. UNO automatically creates a backup of your current GUI files. Restart and you have a beautiful, consistent Mac. Uninstalling is just as easy: just run the installer and choose “Uninstall UNO.”

Bottom Line: If you think the Mac is beginning to look like there’re too many interface designers running loose in Cupertino, restore a little adult supervision with UNO.

      Hi!
      Regarding UNO:
I really understand your approach when designing that software: Everything looks really much more elegant.

I think I’d use this proggie on my home mac, but there are some graphical glitches, like too broad titles in alert messages, artefacts behind signs (iSync) or the proportions do not work any more in some cases. I see, that that may be difficult for you to change, but maybe…

but on my work mac i prefer the diffrent looks of the programs, because that’s orientation. work must be fast and efficient. that’s why these programs are created as they are. (look at the pro-style products like aperture/finalcut. it’s a pity, that adobe do not think of their own graphical schemes.)

I recently had to do a clean install of my system and I haven’t reinstalled Uno yet. It has a few rough edges, but they didn’t bother me. But I really wish Apple would have more consistency in the GUI.

I like the idea of UNO, but I am afraid of using it on my main machine. Is it buggy or does it slow down the computer?

I didn’t have any noticeable problems with Uno, no crashes and no difference in speed.
