Came across this post on LifeHacker about Molly O’Poverty’s Guide To (Mostly) Free Music. Molly’s tastes are as eclectic as mine, with a tilt toward “electronica, dance, house, dub and trance from all over the world wide web.” In just a few minutes of browsing, I discovered the Cranes and the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape.

Say hey to Molly.

Robert: How does one download the music from the Mercedes Benz site? Is there something obvious I’m missing? Thanks! Dev

Dev, the Mercedes-Benz site is a little confusing. It’s a lot of work and I can’t give you a shortcut because the site is Flash, but here’s how to get the goods.

Click on the link to the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape. If you’re using Safari, make sure Block Pop-Up Windows is turned off. Then click on the Start Special link. A new window pops up (the Flash may take a while to load). At the top of the window, select Play List. You can preview the songs here (give it a minute and the playlist will start playing), or just click Download All tracks at the bottom of the window. Finally, click Download at the bottom of the new screen that appears within the window. You can also choose to download a PDF cover for printing.

The music may or may not fit your taste. I’ve been listening to it as I work this morning and I’d say it’s okay driving music. Nothing has grabbed me, but I find myself liking lots of completely different music and sometimes it takes a while for things to grow on me.

      Enjoy!

Got it! Thanks! The Playlist was not loading earlier. Will listen soon. There’s a rather nice French Jazz station:http://217.71.208.37:8006 which I’m listening to while I write! Lots of music and very little talk which is all in French ;-)

    6. Robert Ellis Says:

Glad it’s working, Dev. Nice jazz station. Mellow.

    7. Robert Wetzlmayr Says:

Mercedes Benz shares each issue of their tape for a rather short period of time.

If you wanted to travel back in time, which IMHO is highly recommendend: Torrents of older issues can be found here
