Macworld has posted my review of DEVONthink Pro 1.0. DEVONthink Pro is an information manager, but it offers a number of features not found in most competing applications (like integrated Web browser and newsreader, and Artificial Intelligence features to give you greater insight into your data).

      Rob,

      Glad you’re back!!

Now we wait to read your novel.

In search of the ideal information manager I did try Devon Pro but found that it froze and crashed everytime I tried to import my documents folder into it. Finally after several attempts which included copying folders individually into it I got it to work but by then had tired of it. I also found it’s interface lacking the elegance one expects from a Mac app.

I switched back to Mac Journal (that too the free version) which seems to work quite fine. The one thing about MJ is that it can save backups as individual text files which can then be searched via Searchlight. That did it for me!

      But the quest continues…

Hi, Dev. I didn’t have a problem with DEVONthink crashing, but I didn’t try to import my entire documents folder. The interface didn’t bother me. I prefer it to the “notebook” information managers. When the few issues mentioned in my review in Macworld are corrected (such as Spotlight support), DEVONthink Pro will rate 5 mice, IMHO.

MacJournal (especially the free version) is a great app and a longtime favorite.

Oh, and the novel? My NaNoWriMo novel will never be read by anyone else. It’s awful. But it was great fun writing it and I plan to make another attempt at a novel beginning in January. I’m going to do much more prewriting this time.
