SliceAndDice – Automate the process of creating small thumbnail images

SliceAndDice… In the past, web page designers would spend hours in PhotoShop, carefully dividing images into smaller subimages, then creating an HTML table to put the subimages back together, then editing the HTML to add a URL to each subimage. (Here’s an article on the subject.)

SliceAndDice automates that process.

Simply drag in an image, drag on horizontal and vertical cut lines, and drag on or type in URLs for each subimage. SliceAndDice will subdivide your image, create an HTML Table with the subimages and links, and display the reassembled image in your web browser.

GNU XaoS – Real-time fractal zoomer

XaoS is an interactive fractal zoomer. It allows the user to continuously to zoom in or out of a fractal in a fluid, continuous motion. This capability makes XaoS great for exploring fractals, and it�s just plain fun!

XaoS can display many different fractal types, including Mandelbrot, Barnsley, Newton, Phoenix, and many more. Fractals can be rendered using various coloring methods and planes for an almost endless variety of images. XaoS also supports switching between Julia and Mandelbrot sets for each formula.

XaoS includes many animated tutorials that make learning about fractals fun and easy. These tutorials are also a great introduction to all of XaoS�s features.

ChocoFlop – Image and photo editing

ChocoFlop: Image and Photo Editing Application for Mac OS X.

ChocoFlop clearly positions itself as a lightweight alternative to very expensive graphics tools such as Adobe PhotoShop, (ex. MetaCreations) Corel Painter. It is meant to be smaller and much cheaper. Ideally the target users would be web or mobile designers and other creative people working with reasonably sized images.

Unlike many “Core Image Demonstration” type tools, ChocoFlop is meant to be usable in everyday work. The goal is not just to add as many filters to an image as possible and see what random results one can achieve. I expect users to know what they want to be doing. Real-Time preview and non-destructive Effect layers will be available as required but they won’t be the goal. This means people who have spent time learning industry standard tools will feel right at home when working with layers, layer masks, selections and painting tools.

This is and will probably remain a Mac Only tool. It uses Core Image at its heart to be able to utilize to its maximum the hardware. Thanks to great work of the guys at Apple I’ll be able to focus on usability and not much about optimizing gaussian blur filters and such things. Thanks to the work that’s already been done this project’s development time will be much shorter than if I had to start from scratch. That said, this makes the app very dependant of the operating system.

What’s New:
Version 0.6.6:

Draggable selections ! Yes finally, just move the tool inside some selection to drag it around.
Complete Growl replacement. The program will never bug you about it. If you have it, it uses it, otherwise ChocoFlop now has its own messaging window.
No more CPU usage when idle. The quartzcomp about box was rendering in the background all this time.. oops
Fixed offset/scale problems when dragging from inside a selection with the move tool (it cut the wrong area).
Cursors can now be different depending on the pixel they�re over (eg. you see that you can drag selections).
Using the undocumented CIImageAccumulator�s commitUpdates rather than my own forceRender.
Coming back from full screen works again (you got a white window in the previous release).
