iFamily for Tiger is a genealogy application for those who want to get the most out of their investment in the latest Apple Mac technology.

iFamily for Tiger is for people who think differently – Some Features:

Imports and exports Gedcom files.

Fast data entry and navigation.

Free updates.

What’s New:
Version 2.266:

Ancestors and Descendants Reports

The OneLinePerPerson option is now generated with leading tabs instead of leading spaces.

Family Group Sheet

The Family Group Sheet has been rewritten using Text Tables and can now be exported to a word processor for additional formating and editing.

Context Diagram

Added near relatives to the right click pop-up menu to enable the user to quickly navigate to Parents, Siblings, Children, Grandchildren, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles, Nephews and Nieces. This provides faster navigation than using right click in the Relatives pane.

Ancestors and Descendants Diagrams

As for the Context Diagram, added near relatives to the right click pop-up menu to enable the user to quickly navigate to Parents, Siblings, Children, Grandchildren, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles, Nephews and Nieces. Also added Print buttons to the Ancestors and Descendants panes in the lower half of the main window.

Event Dates Editing Dialog

Added an option to convert dates from yyyy-mm-dd and yyyy-mm to valid dates after importing a Gedcom file. These invalid date formats can be included in Gedcom files from two other (so far) genealogy applications.

People Index

Added an option to Show Duplicates. The user can choose to match on Name, Name + Birth Year or Name + Birth + Death Years.

Gedcom Import

Added UGED as an acceptable Gedcom file extension to handle non-standard Unicode Gedcom file names from MacFamilyTree.

Arial Fonts

If the required Arial fonts are not enabled then Font Book will be automatically invoked to allow the user to enable them.

Event Places

In the printed list generated from the Event Places dialog the Place names can now be inverted and sorted before printing. For instance Kennedy’s Creek, Wayne Co, KY, USA now appears in the report as USA, KY, Wayne Co, Kennedy’s Creek. This means that all events in Wayne Co are now listed together in the report. It also means that mis-spellings like Canady’s Creek or Canadas Creek are easier to spot.

Sources Add/Modify/Delete Dialog

Added a function to merge two Sources. It first moves all the Source Citations to refer to another Source and then gives you the option to delete the original Source. This is very useful if you have imported a Gedcom file that contains a lot of duplicate Sources.

What’s New in V2.260

Sources

Improved memory management for databases that contain many Sources and Source References. With large databases the spinning beach ball occasionally occurred during a change of Focal Person.

Added a search filter for Sources to the Sources Add/Mod/Delete dialog, with options to filter on all Source fields or on any individual field. The search options are accessed by clicking on the disclosue triangle to the right of the Q in the search field.

Added a search filter to the Source Citations table to filter on Page Ref. The Source Citations can be sorted by clicking column headers.

The location of the vertical splitbar between Notes and Source Citations is now remembered the next time that the Sources dialog is invoked.

Corrected a bug that sometimes occurred after deleting a Source.

Corrected a bug in the Events pane that occasionally occurred with large databases when there a an Active Source and after new Event was added.

People Index

Added additional columns for database name, father, mother, spouses and todo in the comma delimited spreadsheet output.

The frame position of the People Index is now saved as a user default and reused in the next iFamily session.

Relatives Pane

Added a print button to generate a comma delimited (csv) file similar to the one for the People Index. This report can be very useful for creating “please fill in the blanks reports” that can be mailed to relatives to collect missing data. If you have a few spreadsheet skills then you may like to create something more elaborate.

Statistics Report

Added the statistics for Age At Death < 1, 1 - 10, 11 - 20, ... as both numbers and percentages.

Colors – CYMK, HSB and Grayscale

Reactivated the CYMK, HSB and Grayscale colour options in the ColorPanel. For adjusting the background colour of the Context Diagram the HSB option in the ColorPanel is great – try it as follows: Reset the default colours; Leave the Saturation at 24%, the Brightness at 98%; slide the Hue up/down from 0o – 360o.

Version 2.252

People Index – Added a button called “Generate Csv File” that creates a comma separated values (csv) file which can then be loaded into a spreadsheet application. The people included are those currently displayed in the Filtered/Sorted list of people in the table in the People Index panel.

Colors- Bug – Corrected a bug that occurred when choosing CYMK or Grayscale colors in the Color Panels. This bug has only been reported by one user. If you are using V2.250 or V2.251 and you get an error message that says something like “An exception occurred in iFamily V2.251 in CdDiagram.m : drawRect_1 at line 761″ and the error message also mentions a problem with colors then you need to: (a) delete the file called com.kswa.iFamilyForTiger.plist that is in folder xxxxx /Library /Preferences, where xxxxx is your Home directory, and (b) restart iFamily for Tiger and then (c) download V2.252.

GEDitCOM is the customizable genealogy application for the Macintosh (including Mac OS X) for editing and viewing GEDCOM genealogy files. Using the GEDitCOM customization features, you can design your own genealogy user interface. Or, if you prefer, you can use the Default Format that comes with GEDitCOM.

What’s New:
Version 3.80b1:

Many internal changes were done (regarding resources) that address two issues. First, GEDitCOM can now fully be run by users without administrative privilidges. Second, the internal changes may evenutally lead to a universal binary version of GEDitCOM (more on this subject later).

A new command for export styles permitted addition of a new export style (called “Fix INDI to FAM Links”) that can repair files downloaded from Ancestry.com that are lacking all the required individual links. The new export style is in the download, but may move to a downable export style once this version is complete.

Fixed bugs dealing with scrolling in dialog boxes when more than 32767 individuals and not allowing detaching of association links to non-individual records.

Besides the above changes, you can look for other changes in the What’s New help topic accessible through the help menu.

Send bug reports to bugs@geditcom.com.

Even if you do not find any bugs, please still send email to bugs@geditcom.com to state all looks OK. For such emails, please give information about your Macintosh. It is important to verify that GEDitCOM works in various MacOS’s 8.6 and above. (Note that Apple is not fully supporting Carbon application features for 8.1 to 8.5, but most should work).

If you have suggestions, send them along.

Some things will change before the final version is released. You should replace any beta versions you download with the final release when that is available and you should not delete your older versions until after that time.

Reunion helps you to document, store, and display information about your family — your ancestors, descendants, cousins, etc. It records names, dates, places, facts, plenty of notes, sources of information, pictures, sounds, and videos. It shows family relationships in an elegant, graphic form — people and families are linked in an easy-to-understand fashion.

Reunion makes it easy to publish your family tree information — even if you want to share it on the Web. You can automatically create common genealogy reports, charts, and forms, as well as birthday calendars, mailing lists, questionnaires, indexes, and other lists. Reunion even calculates relationships, ages, life expectancies, and statistics.

Reunion also creates large, high-resolution, graphic charts allowing complete on-screen editing of boxes, lines, fonts, and colors. Wall charts are one of its specialties.

Limitations of the demo version:

Only 50 people can be entered in a family file.

Import/Export is disabled.

Charts and slideshows can’t be saved.

Printed output will be watermarked.

What’s New:
Version 9.0.5:

New Feature: "Find on this Page" added to note fields, logs, and sources. This makes it easy to find words in long note fields, logs, and the free-form text field of source records.

New Feature: Repair multimedia links – a new feature to help you find and resolve broken multimedia links. See the new Repair button in: Reunion -> Preferences / Multimedia / Locations.

New Feature: "Paste as Plain Text" – a new menu item for pasting text in notes and logs that will strip text styles and colors from the pasted text.

New Feature: Enter source by number. If you’re familiar with your source numbers you can document the source of data even faster.

New Feature: Added the ability to search for "married name" in the Index and in the family card search box. Just use a dash before the name in the search box. For example, searching for "-clinton, hilary" would create a list of all the Clintons, including anybody who married a Clinton.

New Feature: In Sibling popup menus, child status is appended to names of siblings.

SeeGEDCOMX is used to display lists of people in GEDCOM documents; draw ancestor, descendant and family trees; extract people from a GEDCOM according to year of birth, place of birth, name, etc; and generally to browse your way around a GEDCOM document in a WWW-like way. It’s fast, but does need a fair bit of memory.
The input database is read pretty quickly; 500 kilobytes is interpreted in a second or two on the slowest PowerMac. When a GEDCOM file is opened SeeGEDCOMX displays a window containing a listing of the all the individuals in the file. This is called a Group view and looks a lot like a List View in the MacOS Finder. There are ‘folder’ icons for each surname, with drop triangles that you use to display more information. This is the starting point for browsing through the entire database. It’s as easy as navigating in the Finder itself, or using a Web browser.
SeeGEDCOMX has unusual and (in my opinion!) rather nice ways of extracting parts of a GEDCOM database whether as new GEDCOM files, reports for use with a word processor (RTF), or as plain text.

There is limited support for editing a GEDCOM document. This is an area where the program is being actively developed and feedback is requested.

In the Date Calculator, you can enter any date and convert it between Gregorian, Julian, Hebrew, and French Republic and find its day of the week. You can enter two dates and find the time span between them. You can do various other date and time calculations and conversions as well.

A unique feature of the Date Calculator versus other date utilities is that you can enter "fuzzy" dates, like just a month and year (APR 1901) or a range of dates (FROM 1845 to 1867), an still do calculations. The calculations will give all possible answers for the date and time information provided. Being able to do calculations with imprecise dates and time spans is a very useful tool for genealogists working with imprecise date information.

Pedigree-Draw 6 is a Macintosh OS X application that provides for creation, editing and drawing of pedigrees, or family trees, of human or non-human extended family lineages. It was developed originally for use in analyzing population data gathered for biomedical and genetic research. Although not designed as a genealogical database per se, the program can be used to collect and edit biographical data found in the course of family history research, as well as pictures of family members, and display or print those data in hierarchical diagrams suitable for publication. Output may also be saved in Portable Document Format (PDF) for distribution via the Internet, or posting on web-sites.
