Minuteur is an egg timer and a stopwatch. The intention was to have a timer which is simple and immediate in use. Minuteur is also very flexible and extremely configurable. Particular attention has been paid to the ergonomics of the programme. The basic functionality of Minuteur is intuitive enough to be used right from the start.

To set the timer quickly, type the required delay on the numeric keypad. To set a period of 30 minutes, type 3000 (for 30 minutes, 0 seconds). Type 300000 for 3 hours, or just 30 for 30 seconds. The countdown starts immediately.
To set the alarm to go off at a specific time, hold Option/Alt and type the time in the format hhmm.
To start the stopwatch, hold Option/Alt and press Enter.
To stop any timing, press Return, Enter, Spacebar or Escape.
To pause Minuteur, press Spacebar.

To make the most of the deeper features however, you should spend a few minutes reading the help.. Particular attention has been paid to the ergonomics of the programme. The basic functionality of Minuteur is intuitive enough to be used right from the start.

Fob – Dock-based kitchen timer

Fob is a free dock-based kitchen timer for Mac OS X by Leaky Puppy Software. It allows a user to specify possibly multiple timers to count down for a specified interval. When an alarm runs out of time, Fob will make itself conspicuous.

(Fob is not an alarm clock or stopwatch, i.e., it will not count to a particular time, nor count up.)

The presence of presets is Fob’s main gimmick for decreasing the effort required to start an alarm. To draw an analogy to web browsers, they are a kind of time bookmark for commonly used alarms. For example, I may define a six minute preset to let tea steep. Thence, I need only choose “Tea” from my preset list, and I never need deal with a neglected lukewarm cup in my microwave again. Starting a preset alarm requires only one mouse click rather than many clicks and typing.

Fob thus appeals to the unspeakably lazy and undisciplined. Needless to say I will make several million dollars.

The original Timer started as an oven timer. Often, I’d be working on a new program or surfing the web and have something in the oven. So I cobbled together Timer in my spare time in Applescript Studio. That simple timer turned out to be surprisingly popular!

As time went on, I found I wanted something to let me sleep to my iTunes playlists and then shut off iTunes. Similarly, I thought it would be nice to wake to my music. So I expanded Timer to accommodate those changes, and Timer II was born.
