TuxPuck – OS X port of a Linux game, air hockey simulator

TuxPuck is an OS X port of the Linux game. It’s a kind of air hockey simulator, along the lines of the awesome Shufflepuck Cafe, it’s also fiendishly hard.

It is released under the GPL, you can read more about the original game and get the source code on the TuxPuck homepage.

This release is currently only compiled for the PowerPC architecture, however it will run fine and has been tested on an Intel Mac.

It is bundled as an OS X installer package as there are some dependencies on some other frameworks which it needs to install. These are SDL, Ogg Vorbis, libjpeg and libpng.
Unfortunately, at the moment these are not bundled as a part of the App and SDL, Ogg and Vorbis are installed in /Library/Frameworks and the libjpeg and libpng are installed in /usr/local. Typically this won’t cause a problem, but don’t say we didn’t warn you :)

Solarian II is a classic Mac video game: one of the first color games available for the color Macs that came out in 1988, and the winner of countless awards and accolades. It did not run under Classic on OS X, and so it was no longer possible to play it on modern systems; but now it has been ported to OS X!

Avernum is a prison. It’s a enormous warren of tunnels and caverns, far below the surface world. you were banished their by the cruel Empire, to spend the rest of your life in the underworld. At first it seemed that you and your many fellow prisioners might be able to form a nation and live in peace, far from the sun.

The a group of adventurers from Avernum assissinated the King of the Empire. Now Empire forces are rampaging through your underground home, killing every one they find. As things stand Avernum and all that lives in it, is doomed.
But then you, soliders stationed at the most remote of forts, get a chance to change things. A series of unexpected events gives you a chance to explore unimagned relms, meet strange alien creatures, and maybe with luck , save your people from doom.

Avernum, It’s a terrible place, but it’s all you have.

Avernum is a fantasy role-playing game. It features beautiful 3-D graphics, Including drawings from well known fantasy illistrator, Phil Foglio. And a massive story line, make Avernum 2 a very addictive game!

Bubble Thing – Play with bubbles

Inflate things. Fast to make them pop. Slow to make them grow. Make chains. Meet the boss. Enjoy the music.

Arrow keys move. WASD to inflate in four directions.

Popping bigger bubbles will spawn more chain-bullets which will pop other bubbles creating chain reactions. They will also release more collectables which net you a greater score.

This game was programmed during the Toronto Game Jam, 2006.

Sauerbraten – Multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter and game engine

Sauerbraten is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS. Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.

The engine supporting the game is entirely original in code & design, and its code is Open Source (ZLIB license, read the docs for more on how you can use the engine).

In addition to the FPS game which is in a very playable state, the engine is being used for an RPG which is in the preproduction phase.

iTarget – Simple game where you try to click on a moving target

iTarget is a simple little moving-target game. The object is simple: try to click on the moving target. There are a total of 5 targets per level and 10 levels. As you move up on the level ladder, the target moves faster and faster. Also, there are three difficulty settings. These adjust the amount of time available for each level. Easy lets you have 60 seconds to complete a level, Medium allows 45 seconds, and Hard allows only 30 seconds. Although this game may seem simple and easy, it gets vary hard and is addictive.

Nexuiz – 3D deathmatch game

Nexuiz has been in development for close to five years by a team of amateur developers led by Lee Vermeulen. It is a 3D deathmatch game made entirely over the internet. The purpose of the game is to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of realistic shooters. It uses HFX textures by Evil Lair, and currently has 17 maps to frag in. With an advanced UI, the user can select between 15 different player models to use, with an average of two skins for each, and can connect to our master server to play people from all over the world.

The game�s content and source are GPL. Meaning, it is entirely free and any of it can be used in other free projects, even if modified. This is a first for any large game project of its type. We hope this will support the free game community, and encourage more GPL projects.

Quake X – Play original Quake game on OS X

Quake is the successor to Doom, the smash-hit action game. In Quake, you’re plunged into a brutal and terrifyingly realistic 3D environment where you’ll need to rely on your agility, instincts, and a lot of weapons. Multiple players can connect via modem or network in either cooperative or deathmatch modes. If you have trouble with weird colors or incorrect textures in 1.09, throw away all the files inside the “glquake” folder in the “id1″ folder to fix the problem.
