I’m always looking for a faster connection to the Net (who isn’t?), so when I saw the Apple Broadband Tuner on VersionTracker, I downloaded it without paying much attention. After installing, I noticed that my speed tests were unchanged or lower, but I’ve always noticed variations in speed, so I figured I’d leave it (you can test your speed using the Speakeasy Speed Test). But after a while browsing seemed noticeably slower, so I decided to uninstall it. When I rebooted, KERNEL PANIC.
Unless you have a very fast connection (greater than 5 Mbps), stay away from this. If you have DSL or Cable, chances are you won’t need this. If you do install it, you can uninstall it by running the installer again and selecting Customize. Things seem okay now, I thought I should warn anyone tempted to install this to be careful about what you’re getting into.
